Article 499
L’intimé doit produire un acte de comparution au greffe des appels dans les 10 jours qui suivent la réception de l’inscription par ce greffe ou, suivant le cas, dans les 10 jours qui suivent la réception par l’intimé de la copie du jugement autorisant l’appel.
Avant cette comparution, les actes de procédure destinés à l’intimé peuvent être signifiés au procureur qui représentait l’intimé en première instance, à moins d’une disposition qui exige la signification à la partie elle-même.

Article 499
Within 10 days following receipt at the Appeals Office of the inscription or, as the case may be, within 10 days following receipt by the respondent of the copy of the judgment authorizing the appeal, the respondent must file a written appearance with the Appeals Office.
Before such appearance, the proceedings intended for the respondent may be served upon the attorney who represented the respondent in the court of first instance, failing a provision of law which requires service on the party himself.
