Article 970
Si le défendeur a fait défaut de répondre, le juge ou le greffier spécial, selon le cas, rend jugement après examen des pièces au dossier ou, s’il l’estime nécessaire, après avoir entendu la preuve du demandeur.
S’il s’agit d’une demande prévue à l’article 194, le greffier rend jugement sur le vu de la demande et des pièces au dossier.

Article 970
If the defendant fails to file an answer, the judge or the special clerk, as the case may be, renders judgment after examining the exhibits in the record and, if necessary, after hearing the plaintiff’s evidence.
In the case of an action to which article 194 applies, the clerk renders judgment on the face of the statement of claim and the exhibits in the record.
