Article 118
Le conseil d’une municipalité peut adopter un règlement de construction pour l’ensemble ou une partie de son territoire. Ce règlement de construction peut contenir des dispositions sur un ou plusieurs des objets suivants:1° réglementer les matériaux à employer dans la construction et la façon de les assembler; 2° établir des normes de résistance, de salubrité et de sécurité ou d’isolation de toute construction; 2.1° régir les éléments de fortification ou de protection d’une construction selon l’usage qui y est permis, les prohiber lorsque leur utilisation n’est pas justifiée eu égard à cet usage et prescrire, dans ce dernier cas, la reconstruction ou la réfection de toute construction existante à la date d’entrée en vigueur du règlement, dans le délai qui y est prescrit et qui ne doit pas être inférieur à 6 mois, pour qu’elle soit rendue conforme à ce règlement; 3° ordonner que la reconstruction ou la réfection de tout bâtiment détruit ou devenu dangereux ou ayant perdu au moins la moitié de sa valeur par suite d’un incendie ou de quelque autre cause soit effectuée en conformité avec les règlements en vigueur au moment de cette reconstruction ou réfection. Le conseil peut décréter dans le règlement de construction que tout ou partie d’un recueil de normes de construction déjà existant constitue tout ou partie du règlement. Il peut prévoir que les amendements apportés à ce recueil ou à sa partie pertinente après l’entrée en vigueur du règlement font également partie de celui-ci, sans qu’il doive adopter un règlement pour décréter l’application de chaque amendement ainsi apporté. Un tel amendement entre en vigueur sur le territoire de la municipalité à la date que le conseil détermine par résolution; le greffier-trésorier de la municipalité donne avis public de l’adoption de cette résolution conformément à la loi qui régit la municipalité. Le recueil ou la partie de celui-ci qui est applicable est joint au règlement et en fait partie.

Section 118
The council of a municipality may adopt a building by-law for its whole territory or any part thereof. The building by-law may include provisions on one or more of the following objects:1° to regulate the materials to be used in building and the manner of assembling them; 2° to establish standards of strength, salubrity and safety or insulation for any structure; 2.1° regulate fortification or protective elements of a structure according to the authorized use thereof, prohibit such fortification or protective elements where their utilization is not justified in view of the said use and, in the latter case, order the reconstruction or repair of any structure existing on the date of coming into force of the by-law within the time prescribed therein which cannot be less than 6 months, so that it may be brought into conformity with such by-law; 3° to order the reconstruction or repair of any building destroyed or become dangerous, or diminished in its value by at least one-half, as the result of fire or any other cause, in accordance with the by-laws in force at the time of such reconstruction or repair. The council may order in the building by-law that all or part of an existing code of building standards constitutes all or part of the by-law. It may also prescribe that amendments to that code or a relevant part of it made after the coming into force of the by-law is also part of it without having to pass a by-law to prescribe the applicability of every amendment made. Such an amendment comes into force in the territory of the municipality on the date fixed by a resolution of the council; the clerk-treasurer of the municipality shall give public notice of the passing of such a resolution in conformity with the law governing the municipality. The code or the applicable part of it is attached to the by-law and is part of it.
